I am here for you to get what you want out of piano/music. I enjoy finding out who you are and what you want, and take pleasure in guiding you through a joyful learning experience. I don't have an agenda for what I "think" you should know. I believe that you have a vision and I am here to help you achieve it.
I've taught piano lessons for twenty years, all styles, improvisation, theory
I began teaching private piano lessons in the 90's. I then taught for the Chicago Public Schools for five years, after which I returned to school to receive my Masters and PhD in Music Composition. Currently, I teach private lessons as well as various classes at De Paul University including EDM and the Art Of Electronic Music, and Commercial Music Production.
I emphasize fun and getting what you want out of it. I teach classical, jazz, and pop, as well as songwriting, improvisation, composition, and theory. I've taught at a variety of levels from beginning through adult, private lessons through college classes, and thoroughly enjoy teaching. I've received multiple degrees in music, and studied classical piano with Vladimir Leyetchkiss, and Steve Harlos, pianist for the Dallas Symphony. In many cases, I have found students who come to me after having taken lessons with someone else, and who are looking to move forward towards their own interests. I am well versed in composition, jazz, classical theory, music for film. I can take you in just about whatever direction you want to go.
I love teaching, especially because it feeds my heart and my art. Through teaching, I've continued to stretch my own practice.
